Gary was so kind as to research some hotels close to Roter Salon. Here is what he has come up with:
If you looking for a modern budget hotel, just 5 minutes walk from the venue the Motel One was quoting €84 euros a night for those dates when I looked online. I've not been in a room, but the lobby etc looks nice. This is right in the centre of Mitte where all the fashion shops are, and lots of tourist things are close too.

If you wanted to go high end, then Hotel Do Rome is where my bands stay and is €300 a night. This is a short cab ride from Volksbuhne/Roter Salon.

Then there's all the usual hotels chains - The Radisson Blu is good mid-range value. You can look online for hotels in Alexanderplatz / Mitte if you want to dig deeper - there are lots of options.
If you prefer to live close to us at Mehringdamm, I can recommend the hotel Sarotti Höfe (mid-price), which is built into a disused chocolate factory. Equally, there is the (high-end) hotel Riehmers Hofgarten, which is part of a very beautiful old building complex. Also mid-price, there is a Hotel Johann, which my mum has stayed at before and which seemed to be nice. Finally, Motel One (see Gary's notes above) also has a couple of Kreuzberg branches.
For restaurants and sightseeing, Berlin has got so much to offer, we would not even know where to start.
