It is a fine line between leaving people uninformed and giving away so much that all excitement is taken out of the night. Here, we will attempt to get the balance just right.
Venue: We are very honoured to be given the opportunity to occupy Roter Salon for one night. The Salon is part of the amazing Volksbühne, which you should read up about on the internet (I have provided a couple of links in the links section). Usually, The Salon cannot be rented for private events and we were only granted this night as an absolute exception. As such, we must be respectful to the room and to the theatre next door, which has an important (5 hour long) play on that night. You will be amazed by this special place.
Children: Overall, this is going to be an adult party. With that we don't mean in any way an inappropriate event of any sort. But the party starts in the evening, runs late into the night and takes place in a music concert venue, and as such, there is not a really good space for kids to run or play. Several of our friends and family now have young children that they might want to bring. My sons Elliot and Mira are coming, so are Gary's niece and nephew and my cousins. However, all of these "kids" are 10 years and over, i.e. teenagers or thereabout. Please have a good think whether your children will enjoy this at all and whether you will be able to enjoy yourselves.
Dress Code: Yes, we are going with a dress code, haha. We are grabbing the opportunity to make Berliners dress up for something, just this once. As such we are asking that you dress as smart as possible. We are not telling you whether you have to wear a tie or not. But we'd like to give you the chance to get your one amazing party outfit out the dusty back of your wardrobe, knowing that for once you will not be overdressed.
(Additional note on dress: Roter Salon tends to be very hot, so ideally, wear something light or layered.)
Food: We will be catering for vegetarians, pescarians, carnivores, and vegans. However, should you have a noteworthy food allergy, please let us know as soon as possible. The food will be served at a hot buffet, so no other information is required from you as you can choose from a selection of fresh locally sourced dishes on the night.
Gifts: As a rule, all of you coming from such far away places to celebrate our love is more than any gift anybody could give to us. So no gifts are asked for on our part. However, artist friends are welcome to donate art to our household, if you feel that way inclined!
Drugs & Smoking: Drugs are most unwelcome. We ask you kindly to abstain from using drugs and instead feast on cake and the free drinks! In addition, we all know Berliners like to break the rules and smoke wherever they are, but we will be asking you not to smoke in the Salon.
